November 1: Chorro de Giron

On Saturday we traveled to a waterfall outside of town and visited several important military sites. Our tour guide Sandra knows us well, as this was our third trip with her.  She is great at identifying what kids like: their dad dressed in costume, sopa, and llamas!

First up,Tarqui, where Ecuador won a decisive battle with Peru.
Next up, a pic of a little girl who didn't like her pants...or her hat...or her socks. In this pic she is screaming her brains out.
However, after several minutes of not getting a response from me, she stopped crying and put her hat on like this.
Laughter ensued and a happy Maddy appeared. Hooray!

Making friends with a llama.
Bill as an Ecuadorean officer.

Next up, the waterfall.

So beautiful. Hiking around the falls and checking out the plant life was the highlight of the day.

After a great day outside, we found an awesome restaurant called the El Mercado. An oasis in the city and real wine, which has been difficult to find.

Next post is for fiestas!!
